A Tribute

I think it's about time that I pay tribute to one of my inspirations. Melissa Fortunatti is a film student at Art Institute of New York and the following is one of her first short films. Five years ago, when myspace was still relatively new and hot, I sat in my stuffy cubicle during my lunch hour sifting through endless profiles (you have to admit, it was interesting looking at people's profiles when myspace was new) and I randomly came across this girl's profile named Meli Darko (fashioned after a twist on Donnie Darko) I was instantly drawn in by her clever use of html to format an interesting looking page, but beyond that, her music selections, movie suggestions, photography, fashion, and general approach to life through her quotes and subject matter perked my interests. She has a general lust for creative pursuits on many levels and her gusto for life inspires me. Hey, she introduced me to the world of Wes Anderson, Richard Avedon, and Binary Star--for those, I am eternally grateful! There are limitless possibilities when it comes to discovering all life has to offer. I've learned much from her in terms of photography, music, and movies...and I thought I already knew a lot coming from two classically trained musicians. I've not had the privilege of yet meeting Mz. Fortunatti but someday I'd like to. I'm sure we'd have an interesting conversation. She is one of several characters that have inspired me via the world of the web which is funny when you think of how much this crazy tool of the computer has allowed us to share ideas and ultimately inspire people. So kudos to you Melissa and I hope to see much more come from that creative brain of yours! Happy New Years!

Melissa has an interesting blog by the name of beerandsushi.tumblr.com. check her out.
